Wow! You're so good, I could just, MARRY YOU! :) Too bad you can't do this full time. I have the same problem with art taking a long time and no one wanting to pay properly. :(

its looks so real:)
Rico-dawg Featured By Owner Jun 10, 2010  Hobbyist Digital Artist
It must take you a very long time to work on a piece like this considering you have flow and opacity at 100%!

Isn't it a hastle constantly changing the colour?
chipset Featured By Owner Jun 13, 2010  Hobbyist Traditional Artist
Nah I tend to make a quick palette with 4-5 colours at the beginning of the painting, then I color pick from it until I have a base painting to pick more subtle nuances from. If that makes any sence. :) This took... 5 hours I think. But I got to work preety freely since the reference was terrible, stayin 110% true to the original requires much more work and those paintings never go under 20, usually up to about 70+ hours.
Rico-dawg Featured By Owner Jun 14, 2010  Hobbyist Digital Artist
You mean you colour pick directly from the photo for the details right?

Wow, if you're spending 70+ hours on one piece, you can't be making any money at all from it! I'm guessing you live off your art, so money DOES matter.
chipset Featured By Owner Jun 14, 2010  Hobbyist Traditional Artist
I don't live off my art, no, would be working myself to death for nothing if I did what I wanted to do... :) Eerybody wants me to paint for them but nobody wants to pay for more than the material costs.

No I don't colour pick from the photo if I don't have to, as that really doesn't work as well as one would like. :)
Rico-dawg Featured By Owner Jun 14, 2010  Hobbyist Digital Artist
Ah right i see, maybe you should see if any large companies would hire you for concept art or something?

This is true, the colour variations are so many that unless you spend an extremely long time picking a colour, then using it exactly where you picked it, then picking another and repeating, you could end up with the wrong shades :3
chipset Featured By Owner Jun 15, 2010  Hobbyist Traditional Artist
There aren't any game companies in my region, and I don't want to move to the larger cities or abroad... but I've had a lot of offers and I actually have worked with it for a couple of months, distance work... and also as a teacher in the field. :)

Yeah exactly, there's so much noise in photos that it's just adding to the time it takes to work. And I like sticking to the 'real painting' feeling. :)
Rico-dawg Featured By Owner Jun 15, 2010  Hobbyist Digital Artist
Surely if you're going to do digital art it can all be sent via e-mail though. And if you're going to teach, do not go to a secondary school (high school if you're american), my mum is a science teacher and has been teaching in schools for years and years now and she's under so much stress it's ridiculous!

I completely agree there, real painting feels much better, really makes you feel like YOU created it :3
chipset Featured By Owner Jun 17, 2010  Hobbyist Traditional Artist
I was teaching at university/college level, that was ok because the students were there by their own choice. I don't think I could stand teaching kids... ^^

I might return to concept/game graphics some day, but right now I have plans on becoming a dog instructor. We'll see what happens. :)

magikwolf Featured By Owner Jun 18, 2008  Professional Artist
what were the settings that you used for the standard round brush? Like the flow, opacity, brush dynamics...
chipset Featured By Owner Jul 15, 2008  Hobbyist Traditional Artist
100% flow, 100% opacity, pen pressure is what does the trick. :)

Brush tip shape: Spacing set to 1%
Other dynamics: Opacity jitter 0% - pen pressure on, flow jitter off.
Smothing: marked.

:) No texture or anything like that, just clean and simple.
